Slovenia has been a member of the EU since 2004 and of the Schengen Area since 2007, so most nationalities enter visa-free: citizens of the EU/EEA, the UK, Switzerland, the United States, Canada, Australia and many other nationalities can enter without a visa. What every traveller needs to know
- A valid passport is required for entry — check that it will remain valid well beyond your planned departure date.
- Airlines will generally refuse boarding without proof of an onward or return ticket out of Slovenia — have it ready to show at check-in, not just at immigration.
- There is no separate exit tax when leaving Slovenia by air or by road, but check that any airport fees are already built into your ticket price.
- No vaccinations are required to enter Slovenia, except yellow fever for travellers arriving from certain countries in South America and Africa — check current requirements if this applies to your route.
- All foreign visitors must register their address with the local police shortly after arrival (the so-called "white card") — hotels, hostels and registered guesthouses handle this automatically at check-in, but private rentals may ask you to arrange it yourself.
