Things to do in Ljubljana
Slovenia's capital is small enough to work from a single base: about 285,000 people, and a pedestrianised old town you can cross on foot in twenty minutes. Cars are banned from the historic centre, and a free electric shuttle called the Kavalir runs 6am to 10pm if you need a lift with bags.
This page covers the city itself rather than the castle on the hill above it or the day trips everyone asks about, Lake Bled at roughly an hour away and Postojna Cave a little further southwest, both of which get their own pages.
Plan two or three nights here at the start or end of a longer loop through the Julian Alps or the Karst, since Ljubljana rewards slow walking along the river more than a rushed half-day between buses.
