Things to do in Portoroz
5-hour drive. Come here for beach time rather than sightseeing: the town has no old centre to speak of, the beaches are mostly concrete or gravel platforms rather than sand, and sun loungers at the bigger hotels run from around 10-15 EUR a day in July and August. The Secovlje salt pans, still worked by hand, sit a short drive south.
For the Venetian architecture and hilltop views everyone photographs on this coast, walk or drive 4 km to Piran; for a working fishing harbour with a quieter waterfront, Izola is about 6 km the other way. Winters here are mild but most hotels and the promenade feel half-shuttered from November to March.
