Things to do at Skocjan Caves
Skocjan Caves became Slovenia's first natural site on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1986, and the visit is physical rather than mechanical: a guided walk of roughly an hour and a half follows the underground Reka river through a vast collapsed canyon, crossing it on a suspended footbridge with a long drop below.
Entry runs from 16 EUR in low season (January, February, March, November, December) up to 24 EUR in July and August. There is no underground train here, unlike at nearby Postojna Cave, and photography is strictly forbidden inside the cave. Bring solid shoes and a layer, since the underground air stays cool year-round.
Skocjan sits in the Karst region, a manageable side trip from Ljubljana alongside Predjama Castle.
